San Diego Public Library Partners with BiblioCommons for an Enhanced Catalog and Social Discovery Platform
BiblioCommons Inc. is pleased to announce a new partnership with the San Diego Public Library to implement BiblioCore, the integrated public library catalog that promotes social discovery and connects large urban and suburban libraries worldwide.
The San Diego Public Library’s new online catalog is supported by the San Diego Public Library Foundation with funding from Qualcomm Incorporated. The catalog enhancement supports one of the Foundation’s strategic initiatives – to develop the Library’s virtual library and address digital divides by improving literacy across the community.
By adopting the BiblioCore catalog, San Diego Public Library joins San Francisco Public Library, Columbus Metropolitan Library, King County Library System, Chicago Public, Brooklyn Public, New York Public, Seattle Public, Boston Public, Multnomah County Library, and many other public libraries utilizing the BiblioCommons software-as-a-service catalog. BiblioCore works with all major ILS platforms and replaces the traditional patron catalog while encouraging community engagement around the collection, promoting the expertise of librarians as readers’ advisory and reference specialists, and setting a new bar for exceptional online patron experiences.
“We look forward to transforming our catalog by encouraging patrons and staff to share recommendations, reviews and conversation online just like we do in our physical library spaces,” said San Diego Public Library Director Misty Jones. “We are also thrilled to be able to promote library events, book clubs and online resources right in the catalog to ensure everyone in our community is aware of the great programs, opportunities, and resources available to them through their library.”
The BiblioCore catalog is planned to be live with San Diego Public Library by the end of the year.
