The New BiblioCommons Analytics Platform Provides Actionable Insight into the Digital Library Experience

Toronto, Ontario, March 27, 2024 — BiblioCommons is thrilled to announce the launch of the BiblioCommons Analytics Platform, a one-stop shop for libraries to gain insight into and improve their patrons’ online experiences.

Library staff create excellent in-branch experiences because they can observe, understand, and react to how patrons use their facilities, collections, and programs in person. However, until now, they have struggled to gain the same level of insight about their digital experiences. To address this challenge, BiblioCommons created the BiblioCommons Analytics Platform. The new data feature is included in all BiblioCommons products and delivers extensive custom data on how public library patrons navigate, search, place holds, engage with booklists and other library content, and much more.

The BiblioCommons Analytics Platform goes beyond standard analytics provided by Google Analytics or other providers. It captures the key actions patrons take as they navigate through the discovery layer, website, events platform, or apps and delivers critical, public-library-specific metadata about the actions. For example, if a hold is placed, library staff will see the item title, device used, and availability. To maintain privacy, this data is fully anonymized and cannot be traced back to an individual person.

To make this data useful to all library staff regardless of data analysis experience, they can take advantage of the user-friendly dashboards that can be set up and shared with stakeholders. BiblioCommons provides additional tutorials, training, meetups, and consulting services, including custom reports to help libraries get the most from this data.

Julie Mangus, eServices & Marketing Librarian at Marin County Free Library, shares her experience using the BiblioCommons Analytics Platform, "I've been working in digital and public services in public libraries for 20 years, and we have always wanted to have better insight into the online patron journey beyond basic ILS data to make data-driven decisions and increase patron engagement. The BiblioCommons Analytics Platform provides the data we've always wanted in a format that is accessible and formatted for easy inclusion in reports or presentations. We were also thrilled that BiblioCommons provides consulting services to help libraries with and without data experts set up and utilize dashboards and reports."

BiblioCommons will be at PLA 2024. Visit booth #2231 or contact a BiblioCommons team member to learn more about how the BiblioCommons Analytics Platform can enhance engagement and transform online experiences.
